If you have thought carefully about adopting a cat, and now feel ready to give one of our cats a caring home, it's time to take the next step.
Here's how to do it...
Step 1 - Get the details
Identify your local CP Adoption Centre or Branch and give them a ring, booking an appointment if necessary.
Alternatively phone our Helpline on 08702 099 099 (Monday to Friday; 9am-5pm) to find a Branch or Adoption Centre near you. To contact our branch, call the number at the very top of every page on this website.
Step 2 - On arrival
Tell us what type of cat you are looking for and a little bit about yourself via a questionnaire and a chat. This will help us identify which cats may be suitable for you, for example if they are particularly compatible with other pets or suitable for young children.
Step 3 - View the cats
Visit the cats and take the opportunity to speak with the Branch volunteer or Cat Care Assistant about CP’s homing procedure and the cats’ personalities. Our cats have a variety of backgrounds, with some being more suited to rural homes, whilst others may be happy as indoor pets, and may not need as much outside space. We will carry out a home visit before homing a cat to you.
Step 4 - Home visit
Not every cat will suit your specific environment. We carry out a home visit to ensure that we find a cat that fits your circumstances. Home visits are also a chance for you to ask questions and discuss the ins and outs of homing a CP cat. Home visits are usually carriied out by one of our trained fosterers.
Step 5 - Collection day
Once you've had your home visit, you can collect kitty. Given that our cat care costs can be in excess of £150 per cat, we welcome donations! Many people give in excess of £50 per cat to further the work of the charity and help even more cats.
Step 6 - Advice and support
If you have any queries, after taking your cat home, please give the Adoption Centre or Branch a call. Our National Helpline (08702 099 099) is also here to help you Mon - Fri: 9am - 5pm.
Thank you for giving a cat a second chance of happiness.
At any one time we have plenty of cats and kittens who would love to introduce themselves to you. Take a look at our gallery!
Before starting the process of adopting one of our cats, please take a few minutes to consider how owning a cat will affect your life.
Why pay £50-£100 for a kitten from adverts in the paper - Look what we offer as standard:
All of the above would normally cost well over £100! Couple that with the fact that you will be helping cats who are desperately in need of homes and everybody wins!
All we ask for is a reasonable donation - most people find between £50 and £75 is acceptable. So not only does your money benefit the cats in our care, you end up with far more than a newspaper trader could offer!
The Salisbury and District branch was established over 20 years ago. We have over 12 volunteers and in any one year we may rescue and rehome as many as 500 cats and kittens.
If you can offer a home to one of our rescue cats, please contact our co-ordinator on 08453 712068
We are always on the look out for new volunteers - people who can take telephone calls, help fundraise and promote the work we do are most welcome.
We are also currently looking to fill a number of specific roles, including branch co-ordinator/leader so please contact us if you think you'd like to get involved.
