We're afraid to begin the new year with a terrible tale of abuse involving two twelve week old kittens who, through no fault of their own, have been subjected to a shocking level of abuse from their new owners. We're highlighting their story in the hope that we can put an end to this kind of treatment, and to show that it goes on in Salisbury on a regular basis.
'Mac' and 'Scott'are were rescued from a family with young children who had had the kittens for only a few weeks.
They are literally covered in injuries:
We are launching an appeal to help these two (their vet fees will cost well over £1000), and other recently abandoned and abused cats and kittens, so if you can help, please send whatever you can - it will be gratefully received.
Read Mac and Scott's full story here.
Our branch relies almost solely on donations from kind hearted people, and together we can make a real difference by helping people who get into difficulties with their pets, and rehoming abandoned or stray cats - we also undertake a comprehensive neutering programme in an effort to cut down on the amount of abandoned kittens we see each year. Please help to spread awareness of Cats Protection - tell people how to get in touch if they get into difficulties with their pets - we CAN help.
If you would like to make a donation, you can do so online, or by post
We intend to keep the site updated with Mac and Scott's progress - we have learned today (7th Jan) that they will both have to have a leg amputated, and the cuts to their tails are so deep that they may lose parts of them too. As the swellings recede we are unfortunately noticing lots more injuries.
They are beautiful little boys who despite all their injuries, are content to sit on a knee and purr and sleep, and once they have recovered we will be looking for a special home for them.
We can now offer a fully secure and easy facility for you to donate to our branch using any credit card. Simply click on the button to the right, or visit our donations page.
Using the Paypal donation system, we can receive funds directly from you easily using one of the most secure payment systems currently available. We are pleased to be able to provide this service, click here, or the button above to make a donation
Our grateful thanks go to those of you who helped the branch last year.
It is Cats Protection's mission to help unwanted and abandoned felines, rehabilitating and rehoming them where possible, but the work doesn’t stop there!
We also seek to alleviate the problem of unwanted cats, by offering information and advice about responsible cat ownership and promoting neutering as the only effective solution.
Our mission is based upon the charity’s three key aims:
-To help stray and unwanted cats and kittens, rehabilitating and rehoming them where possible
-To encourage the neutering of all cats and kittens not required for breeding
-To inform the public about the care of cats and kittens
Cats Protection has been working for cats for over 75 years, building up a wealth of knowledge about feline welfare. We now have 29 Cat Adoption Centres and 260 Branches, and continue to grow to meet the increasing demands placed upon us.
Why pay £50-£100 for a kitten from adverts in the paper - Look what we offer as standard:
All of the above would normally cost well over £100! Couple that with the fact that you will be helping cats who are desperately in need of homes and everybody wins!
All we ask for is a reasonable donation - most people find between £50 and £75 is acceptable. So not only does your money benefit the cats in our care, you end up with far more than a newspaper trader could offer!
The Salisbury and District branch was established over 20 years ago. We have over 12 volunteers and in any one year we may rescue and rehome as many as 500 cats and kittens.
If you can offer a home to one of our rescue cats, please contact our co-ordinator on 08453 712068
We are always on the look out for new volunteers - people who can take telephone calls, help fundraise and promote the work we do are most welcome.
We are also currently looking to fill a number of specific roles, including branch co-ordinator/leader so please contact us if you think you'd like to get involved.
